February 15thOrganized by CFA Society France and Natixis, the finance industry's carbon footprint Conference was an opportunity to talk about carbon accounting, and what financial institutions can do regarding the climate issuesA panel of experts discussed the challenges of carbon emissions and how the banking industry could/should take them into account.<ul><li>Jean-Marc Jancovici (Founding partner of Carbone 4) first presented the different climate scenarios that he transcribed into carbon emissions. He set the limits and defined what action the human being should take in the next 50 years in order to reduce its impact significantly.</li><li>Melissa Perez (Business Development Manager at Carbone 4 Finance) then shared with us the methodology for measuring carbon emissions so that banks can integrate it when assessing the temperature of banking books.</li><li>Karen Degouve (Climate Director of the French Banking Federation - FBF) focused the debate on how banks take the issue into consideration and gave us a broad perspective on the banking industry.</li><li>Orith Azoulay (Global Head of Green &amp; Sustainable Finance of Natixis CIB) closed the debate by presenting the Green Weighting Factor as the tool allowing Natixis to manage our financing activities according to the carbon trajectory of investments.</li></ul><a href="https://youtu.be/06Kfc2UrLiE">Watch the replay</a><figure class="media"><oembed url="https://youtu.be/06Kfc2UrLiE"></oembed></figure>

Paul joined Carbon4 Finance in February 2020 as a Carbon Data Analyst. In the team he is responsible for companies of the agri-food, forest &amp; paper, as well as the transport equipment sector.&nbsp;Before joining Carbon4 Finance, Paul worked as a true price analyst intern at the impact institute in Amsterdam, where he helped compiling an input-output based global impact database. &nbsp;

Alix joined Carbon4 Finance in February 2021 as a Carbon Data Analyst. She works more specifically on the Power sector and Energy Equipment sector.&nbsp;Alix specialized in Energy during her studies. She graduated with a Master’s Degree in Engineering from Centrale Nantes and a Master’s Degree in Energy Science from Utrecht University. Prior to joining the team, she built her early-on experience through internships in both the private and public energy sector.

The food and beverage sector (including pre- and post-production activities) is one of the most emissive economic sectors, as it is responsible for about a third of total anthropogenic emissions, while agriculture alone produced more than 18% of global emissions in 2016. In January, Carbon4 Finance published a report to summarize the results of the CIA (Carbon Impact Analytics) campaign, to identify the carbon performance and climate transition risk of 95 food and beverage companies. Euronext’s Low Carbon 100 Europe PAB Index

Euronext was the first stock exchange operator to launch a pan-European CO2 emission index in 2008, designed specifically with the support of a group of international experts, and in close partnership with NGOs.

In 2015, Euronext renewed the index methodology. It selected Carbon4 Finance to create its Low Carbon 100 index, made up of 100 very liquid European companies selected according to their environmental approach.

He took part in the creation of ARVAL management, which became the European leader in the management of motor vehicles.In 2005, Laurent MOREL joined the real estate company Klépierre working to manage their commercial centers. Chairman of the Executive Board from 2008 to 2016, he strived to enlarge and the improve the status of the group. The industry was incorporated into the CAC 40 in 2015.Today, he brings his leadership experience to the service of all preparatory initiatives for risks and opportunities induced by climate change.Laurent Morel is notably the president of the French Institute for Building Performance, an economic alliance that promotes the implementation of energy transition by ambitious means.He is also administrator of the think tank The Shift Project.

Carbon4 Finance was glad to present the building industry’s results. During this webinar, we presented the Carbon Impact Methodology applied to the real estate and construction sector, and the results of our analyses. Real estate companies, as financial players, play a key role in the building ecosystem. As such, they are witnesses to the ecological challenges of this sector, but also players in the transition of the building industry. Worldwide, the building sector (existing buildings and construction combined) consumes 36% of the final energy consumed and emits 37% of the world's CO2 emissions. The transition of the sector is therefore a necessity, which is increasingly reflected in regulations: in France alone, the tertiary sector decree imposes energy savings on part of the existing stock, and the environmental regulation, applied from January 2022, will impose thresholds throughout the life cycle of construction projects. Real estate companies, as managers of a portfolio but also as property developers, have a major role to play in this transition, especially as their economic weight is considerable. Melissa joined Carbon4 Finance in 2021 as Head of Sales and Business Development. She has a solid background in the financial industry, having worked for renowned banks such as Bank of France, Credit Mutuel Arkea, Société Générale, Morgan Stanley, and BNP Paribas. In her last role in BNPP, she was in charge of developing the sustainability loan offer in the Emerging Markets.&nbsp;Aside from her professional life, Melissa is a board member of The Shifters, an association gathering more than 12 000 volunteers in Europe which support the Shift Project, a think tank whose mission is to decarbonize the economy. As Head of the Project Department, she creates and coordinates an infrastructure to support hundreds of projects from the volunteers.&nbsp;Additionally, Melissa is a board member of Orano’s Stakeholder Panel, where she provides corporate management with insights on the social, societal, and environmental responsibility of the Group. &nbsp;
